I used to dislike any clothing that was home made and showed it. Them things with visible mending. I still like my clothes to show quality, but I dress them repaired even when you can see it. I find people don’t look close enough anyway. And I’m considered well dressed, so now I make a point of doing so in an educational way.
I have a question regarding rain boots. I find rubber shoes uncomfortable, ill fitting and ugly. And they’re made of plastic. For me rain shoes have always been lesther boots, preferably dark and/or patterned and patent ones. But now I get chastized by using leather with bad weather. I don’t get snow and salty streets here. What’s your thoughts?
Me too ! I see all these artisan / made by craftsmen / made by machine products and its hard to appreciate products of humble origin. The game is rigged ! But like you say, I got to remember that no body has the time to look close enough at the fades and mends. As long as I am pleased with my garments, its all that matters. I tend to over think it coz I see too many polished visuals on the media.
I own 100% rubber garden boots and they are alright. I sometimes wear them outside the house and they stand out for looking dirty. I see the designer versions of rubber boots that look rather nice but they are priced a certain way. I am waiting to find them second hand. I like the Hunter boots sort of look and dont find them ugly at all :

The men around me wear their hiking shoes when it rains. My husband’s pair is made of leather and its held up well. I think I shouldnt worry too much about me doing the same but the appeal of worrying less about ruining the leather made me want rubber shoes. My niece walks through every puddle of water while I carefully go around it to protect my shoes. Rain shoes might be more fun to wear ?
