  • A friend of mine is a martial artist. He is supper supportive of me and includes me in every sporting opportunity that he is privy to. I got to try out football, soccer, baseball, rowing, …. It’s like he is on a mission to make an athlete of me and I am taken back by the confidence he shows in me that I will get better.  I am taken back by the number of chances I am given to get better. It makes me want to pay it forward to the women in my life by extending similar support.
  • A proper summer with sports, walks, bike rides, swims, beer, hummus, vegetable garden burgers, sandals, t-shirts, … the ordinariness of it feels like I am back to the days of my childhood.
  • Summer wine. We are hopeless romantics. We have been playing this song in the background when we drink wine and toast to the cliche-ness of it all.
  • I no longer live in the Berkeley liberal bubble. I have been taken back by the views of many individuals I meet. Not many people have heard the terms ‘zero waste’, ‘sustainability’, ‘regenerative’, ‘plastic free’, ‘ethically made’, trendy ‘minimalism’, ‘plant based diet’, ……. I feel like a fish out of my pond. But then, I have been having some fascinating conversations. “Who do what for the environment ? That’s crazy. Why ?”

“there has been a shift from orientalising to self-orientalising, whereby the so-called ‘white man’s gaze’ through hegemonic Eurocentric discourse is appropriated and continues to dictate what Other fashions should be and look like.”

Think back to who told you it was wrong to talk about money. Question it all. The more we talk about it, the less awkward it will become and the more we can learn from each other.

“For me, it’s the connection between indoors and outdoors, and using that to blur the boundaries of your living space. I also think it’s about considering using smaller spaces well, therefore using less resources and heating to live. This house is a perfect example of that.”
