The blue dresses and I.
  • This is the first time I have recorded OOTDs with this amount of sincerity.
  • It was embarrassing from day 1 to day 10. It got boring from day 11. The break through happened on Day 25. Its actually quite enjoyable to record what you wear – they are data points. I plan to do some analytics on them as I aggregate them.
  • I thought that I will look back at this data, to figure out how I can improve my outfits/look. I can figure out the proportions that work for me. I can get a hair cut and see how that changes my look. I can start wearing accessories to look more interesting. I can ….. But I am quite happy with what I have going. I saw the hashtag #theBoringRevolution and it stayed with me. Always chasing the new, leads to unsustainable practices. Practicing gratitude and mindfulness, on the other hand, gives a spiritual backbone to do less harm to the beings in the biosphere. “Wear blue. Be calm, boring and grounded”, is my new style mantra.
  • My big concern with dressing isn’t that I wear the same things all the time. That, to me, is a sign of love. My concern is that I wear some of the garments too little. My biggest pet peeve is hoarding : the act of confusing love of clothes with ownership of clothes.
  • Many a times, I started writing a caption “sorry for the same outfits. I bet you are bored” below my Instagram photos. And retracted. I don’t owe it to anyone to constantly provide more information or visual stimulation. I don’t make outfits. I record outfits. Be bored. Unfollow if it’s wasting your time. We should make social media work for us.
  • I have been on a shopping fast since the Earth Overshoot Day. It’s given me time to think about what I don’t need. There are 2 days in the weekend and too many clothes that I can only wear on these two days. I need to let go of a few clothes.
  • I need another pair of pants of some sort. Should they be woolen ? Not sure. Does my closet need a second pair of jeans ? Not sure. Raw denim needs time to break in. If I start now, I will have a pair that will be comfortable for regular wear by start of next year.
  • Mimi Thorrison is the one blogger I still follow who lives outside her ecological budget, many times over. Her passion for life is contagious. She inspires me to dream. The downside of seeing all these images, is the sartorial lust. Show a starved dress lover who cant wear dresses to work – a Mimi Thorrison who wears the most fabulous dresses …… It’s giving me mild angst. Maybe I should buy a work appropriate maxi dresses and let go of the short dresses I own ? See what the influencers can do to me ?
  • Navy blue and black are such good mates. Let me make my case :
Silk shirt by The Row. Its exquisite and it reminds me of the sensation every time I wear it.
TITLE : ‘The revenge of the floral print’.
Shirt : How dare she refers to print as “visual clutter” ?? I am subtle and tasteful.
A chambray shirt, the mighty and the durable.
The ugly pants. Ugly is interesting. It’s a rebellion of sort.
The fun pants.
Same garments, different shoes.
The days of the t-shirt.
Me : “nobody laughs in fashion photos. I am going to put on my nonchalant face”.
him : “Challenge accepted”.
P.S : He does not know that I write this blog. He cant for the life of him, figure out why I make him take all these photos.
Playing with volume …
… and other things.
